Aditya Surjewala to Contest from Kaithal in Haryana Assembly Polls as Congress Releases Third Candidate List
Aditya Surjewala, the son of senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala, has been fielded by the Congress party as a candidate for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. He will contest from the Kaithal constituency, a significant seat previously held by his father. The Congress announced this decision as part of its third list of 40 candidates for the state elections, which are scheduled for October 5, 2024. This move reflects the party’s strategy of banking on political legacies, as Aditya’s father has a strong influence in the region, having represented the Kaithal constituency in the past.

The selection of Aditya is part of the Congress’s broader effort to introduce fresh faces while retaining established political families. The Kaithal seat holds particular importance due to its historical significance and the Surjewala family’s long-standing association with the region. Alongside Aditya, other candidates in this third list include sons and relatives of prominent Congress leaders, further highlighting the party’s reliance on political dynasties in this election (Hindustan Times).
In addition to this, Congress has fielded other candidates from key constituencies, including Vikas Saharan, son of Hisar MP Jai Prakash, and Pooja Chaudhary, wife of Ambala MP Varun Chaudhary. This third list brings the total number of Congress candidates to 81, leaving nine seats still pending nomination, which the party plans to announce soon (India Today).
Aditya Surjewalaβs nomination indicates the Congressβs intention to rejuvenate its ranks while continuing to lean on influential political families in Haryana. The Kaithal constituency, traditionally a Congress stronghold, will be crucial for the party in this election, especially with the rising influence of the BJP and regional parties. As the election date approaches, Aditya Surjewalaβs campaign will likely draw significant attention, given his political lineage and the stakes involved in the Haryana Assembly elections.
